Some shoes, particularly those made of materials like leather, are dyed with a higher concentration of pigment to enhance their color. This, or the lack of proper colorfastness in the material, makes them susceptible to color transfer. The stitching on these shoes may also turn red if exposed to rain or water. Maintenance for such shoes is not easy. The condition shown in the picture is fortunate, as the shoes were well-maintained and not very dirty to begin with; otherwise, the results might not have been as good.
